Songwriting Workshop ~ Women not Witches
Time & Location
About the event
- A unique opportunity to embrace the resilience and power of femininity using poetry, visual art, meditation, discussion and free writing to inspire a song -
Dorset based singer-songwriter, Kitty Stewart will be offering a unique experience exploring a range of techniques to help you find your creative flare and to uncover the songwriter within.
Prepare for an empowering journey, as you delve into the theme of "Women not Witches" exploring the history of the burning of 'witches' in the 1600's to the discrimination of women in the modern day and taking inspiration from creative writers and poets such as Nikita Gill and L.E. Bowman.
A variety of artistic and holistic approaches including visual art, meditation, poetry and free-writing will be incorporated to help you unlock and explore your creativity. Focusing on feeling rather than theory whilst still cultivating the key elements of songwriting, Kitty will be drawing wisdom from her own experience and training to deliver an inspiring and innovative workshop.
This workshop is open to adults and older teenagers, from absolute beginners to intermediate song writers looking to expand their songwriting toolkit.
Instruments are welcome but not necessary. All you need is pen and paper (or a laptop / smart device to use for writing).
There will be plenty of opportunity to work independently and to share your work if you like but this is my no means mandatory!
A follow-up workshop will be taking place on Sunday 5th December for anyone who would like to learn how to apply lyrics to music - using the voice and finding a melody or applying chords to an instrument. Again, this will be based on feeling and minimal theory (no sheet music) so it's great for beginners.
